When the Jayasundera family reached out to book a portrait session, they were looking for a mix of classic and natural styles. As a photographer in Blacktown, I suggested a two-part experience: starting in the studio and continuing later that afternoon at a nearby park.
The result is a family gallery that reflects their joy, warmth, and connection. If you're drawn to the creativity of indoor backdrops or the charm of outdoor settings, you can have both in one portrait experience.
Studio Family Portraits in Marsden Park
We started the session in my Marsden Park studio, located in the Blacktown area. With creative lighting and themed backdrops, the Jayasunderas were able to enjoy a comfortable environment where we captured both posed and playful moments.
The studio is ideal for families who want a quiet space, more control over styling, and multiple look options in one place.
Their daughter brought great energy into the studio, especially with her toy guitar, and their dog Rory joined in for a few fun shots. This part of the session gave us timeless family portraits with a bit of personality too.
Below are some of the Jayasundera family’s vibrant studio portraits, filled with playful energy, sweet moments, and a touch of personality.
Outdoor Portraits at Nurragingy Reserve in Blacktown
Later in the day, we met at Nurragingy Reserve in Doonside, one of the most popular parks in Blacktown for family photography. The soft golden light, garden paths, and lush greenery made it the perfect spot for relaxed outdoor portraits.
Outdoor sessions are ideal for families who love natural light, open space, and a more relaxed, candid feel.
Wearing coordinated red outfits, the Jayasunderas stood out beautifully against the natural surroundings. We strolled through the park, capturing natural smiles and quiet moments as they enjoyed the space together.
See below for highlights from our afternoon at Nurragingy Reserve, where coordinated red outfits and golden light made for timeless family portraits.
Studio and Outdoor Sessions Offer Different Strengths
The Jayasundera family's portraits highlight how studio and outdoor sessions can work together beautifully. The comfort and control of the studio allowed for classic, styled portraits, while the park added a sense of movement and warmth through natural light and candid moments.
Booking both a studio session and an outdoor session gives families the chance to explore different moods and settings. Some prefer to do both on the same day, while others book them separately. Either way, it's a flexible option for families in Blacktown who want variety in their portraits without compromising on comfort or style.
